Pool Together in Texas

The pool, hot tub and spa industry is an important part of Texas’ state economy.

From the tens of thousands of small business owners and employees, to the millions of dollars in economic output, the pool and hot tub industry is critical to Texas’ economy. Pool construction alone employs thousands of local residents, drives permit fee revenue to small municipalities and employee tax revenue, all of which help stimulate local economies. Pool builders, distributors and retailers live and work in our communities and are a vital part of the workforce.

This industry is composed of small, local and often minority-owned businesses. By imposing such industry-specific regulation, thousands of local jobs are jeopardized, resulting in less money for local governments that rely on their permits.

  • In 2020, the Texas pool and spa industry contributed more than $2.3 billion and 39,000 jobs to the state economy.
  • The state receives $39,580 in sales tax for every acre-foot of water used for new swimming pool installations.
  • The pool and hot tub industry generates $517,033 in gross revenue for every acre-foot of water used for new swimming pool installations.
  • The pool and spa industry generates 26 jobs per acre-feet of water it uses to fill newly constructed pools.
  • The swimming pool and hot tub industry also creates approximately $50,000 in local economic impact for every new pool that is built.

The pool, hot tub and spa industry provides thousands of jobs.

In 2020, more than 39,400 Texans were employed by the pool and spa industry. Pool industry professionals, including builders, contractors, service technicians and more, are most often local, small business owners who live and work in our communities.
